Infectious Skin DiseaseWrestling is a contact sport, so there is a chance of contracting a skin infection. The coaching staff at MHS will be proactive to ensure that infections don't enter the wrestling room. We are also asking parents to constantly monitor their sons for any sign of an infection. The Minnesota State High School League has a very good slide show giving information on the different types of infections, how they are contracted, how to treat, and what each infection looks like. To view this site go to mshsl.org, scroll down under activities until you get to wrestling (the last one), then scroll down to resources at the wrestling page to the "Skin Infection Slide Show". Preventative measures we will take to ensure an infection free room: 1. Mats will be mopped with a germ killing agent on a daily basis. Walls will also be disinfected at least once a week. 2. Street shoes will not be allowed in the wrestling room. 3. Wrestlers must shower daily. 4. Wrestlers must wash workout gear on a daily basis. 5. The coaching staff will perform skin checks once a week. 6. Wrestlers must perform self checks on a daily basis. Any mark or swollen gland must be reported to the coaching staff immediately. 7. Wrestlers will apply Ken Shield before wrestling in a match or tournament. 8. If a wrestler has a suspicious sign of infection, they will be sent immediately to the training staff to be further diagnosed. If the wrestler is sent to the doctor and a diagnosis of a skin infection is made, the wrestler will be quarantined from the wrestling room until the athlete is deemed infection free by the doctor and training staff. For more information look for the Skin Infection Slide Show on the MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League) website:http://mshsl.org/mshsl/activitypage.asp?actnum=424
